A special tool, such as a seal puller can be used to remove oil seals in a quick and efficient manner. If tool is not used, there are many other ways to remove oil seals. When installing new seals, always make sure that the correct seal is being installed. Seals that are not made specifically for the application can begin to leak once the outboard is used although it may initially appear that the seal has seated properly when first installed. For added protection, you can use some types of Loctite when installing a new seal - or a gasket sealing compound for o-rings.
