If you require upper gearcase or lower unit service or repair work in almost all cases the outdrive will need to be separated.
The video listed below should aid in this task. Once stern drive has been removed from boat taking unit apart should take about 1 hour. In most cases it will be easier to separate units that the actual stern drive removal from the boat.

Propeller and prop hardware should be removed from lower unit before sending unit out for repair. Upper gearcase should have u-joint shaft assembly removed and water pump area cover and the three small one inch bolts stored with cover.
